UEFA Football - Andrea Pirlo Out of the Game against FC Zurich

The 29-year-old A.C. Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo suffered a right thigh injury after his training with the team over the week and, unfortunately, he will miss the game against FC Zurich. The Milan franchise is not sure how long Pirlo will be out of action, but they hope it won't be long.

Pirlo will go on with some tests this week and will wait for the results before announcing any further declarations. This situation is not good for the manager Carlo Ancelotti, who has Gennaro Gatusso, Filippo Inzaghi y Alessandro Nesta out of action as well due to injuries. The A.C. Milan has lost the first two games of the Serie A season and the team's future success is still uncertain.

However, these are just situations that any team has to face throughout the season. Last season A.C. Milan ended with a disappointing 5th place as the team struggled with the midfielder position and due to injured players. Nevertheless, team's vice-president, Adriano Galliani met with Ancelotti to find out a solution to this situation and talk about the expectations to achieve for the new season. Carlo Ancelotti has been the team manager since 2001 and he has guided the team to two Champions League titles in 2003 and 2007. The A.C. Milan franchise and the players still have faith in him and they don't have any intentions of finishing his contract.

Pirlo has been an important key player for A.C. Milan during his 8 years with the team. Pirlo has won two Champions Leagues, 2 UEFA Super Cups and one Italian Cup. Previous to playing for Milan, Pirlo began his career with Brescia Calcio in 1994, after a few years in 1998 he played for the Internazionale and later transferred to Reggina Calcio for the 1999-2000 season.

Internationally speaking, Pirlo has accomplished many triumphs with his Italian national team. He was called to play for Italy in the Summer Olympics 2000 and once again in 2004, obtaining the bronze medal. That same year he participated in the Euro2004. In 2006, Pirlo played at the FIFA World Cup in Germany where he was a key player for Italy. He was named as Man of the Match three times during the tournament and helped the team to win the World Cup Championship.

With all these accomplishments and experiences there is no doubt Pirlo is an exceptional player and he is really important for the A.C. Milan. His role is vital for the team's success, especially after knowing that his team mates remain out of action.

Every A.C. Milan fan hopes for Pirlo as well as Gatusso, Inzaghi and Nesta to come back to the field as soon as possible. With the return of these four players, Ancelotti and the whole franchise will make sure to fulfil the team's expectations for this year's campaign in the Italian Serie A and the coming European Championships.
