Four Things You Must Know To Get Sexy Six-Pack Abs
Flabby ab owners unite! So you want six-pack abs, huh? Well, let's get real — it's pretty tough to get totally ripped abs. Maybe you should settle for a four-pack? Take a realistic look at yourself, because the further you are away from washboard abs, the harder it will be to achieve this Adonis-like look. But it is possible if you have the right training.
Six-Pack Tip #1
Fix your diet.
You CANNOT spot reduce, so if you don't lose the excess weight, your newly-minted six-pack abs will just be covered with belly fat.
The two types of diets that seem most useful for minimizing belly fat are the traditional low-fat diet and the less traditional low-carb diet. Perhaps you could combine the two (kind of a South Beach-type diet) for even better results. The most important thing is to pick a diet plan you can live with. Face it — if you hate the diet, it's not going to happen.
Six-Pack Tip #2
Include cardio.
Again, this goes back to the spot-reduction is a myth concept. You can do crunches and sit-ups for weeks on end, but if you have flab in your midsection, the ripped abs you may or may not have will be hidden.
Try a cardio that includes ab work, such as Turbo Jam. Or, while doing your favorite cardio, concentrate on tightening your abs and tilting your pelvis up slightly. This will ensure that your abs get some extra work while you're burning calories.
Kickboxing is another cardio activity that really works your middle. Your core works to stabilize you while you kick and punch. Results will be especially good if you concentrate on keeping your stomach muscles pulled in while you workout.
Six-Pack Tip #3
Back away from the so-called "ultimate" ab machines, rockers, etc.
Save your money — any ab work you can do on these machines you can also do without them. All you need to develop rock hard abs is a good workout and eating plan. Paying money for these ultra-specific gadgets may only help if it motivates you to actually workout because you paid money. Just find a few good ab routines that you like and stick with it.
Six-Pack Tip #4
Make sure your ab workout was designed by a pro.
If you're going to spend money on your abs, here's the way to spend it. Shell out for a personal trainer (make sure he/she is reputable!) so you can get expert advice.
A more economical way to go is to purchase a tried-and-true workout from a well-known trainer (like Vince DelMonte, etc. – his complete program is here) so you know you're getting advice from a professional and not some couch potato who wants to make a quick buck on the Internet. If you do go this route, do what the plan calls for and you're practically guaranteed success. It's just the "doing" that's the hard part!
