Design to Develop Interest

" Not long ago I went to a seminar that had multiple speakers and presentations. This was spread out over a few days and involved all sorts of different speeches. Now, most of the people presenting anything also gave people a whole bunch of information. Sometimes there were tables set up for us to pick up packets, other times the people walked around to hand it all out personally.

Now, I’ll fully admit that when I’m seeing enough presentations in a row a lot of it has a habit of blending together. Maybe my attention span just isn’t long enough. Mind you, this isn’t because I don’t have interest in learning the subject matter, which is precisely why I always make sure to grab whatever information they had out.

After an event like this I always make sure to read through everything that was handed to me. This not only helps me to understand the subjects, but it also helps me remember what the speeches were about.

Going from the perspective of someone who pays a lot of attention to what is handed out, I have to say that I’m surprised at how few people put very much though to the design aspect of their material.

The end all best kind of presentation material is effectively designed to be both informational and interesting to look through. These are the people who not only got pocket folder printing done to keep the information together, but design their folders so that they flowed seamlessly into the material being presented. They would have outer designs that blended well with the designs of the material inside.

One thing that makes all of this very important is that this is the information people are going to be taking with them. I have a variety of folders filled with information from presentations I saw years ago, and I still have them with me because I find them to be useful reference tools.

That is the market of a successful presentation, because they’re not just being informative, but helping me to remember them long after the fact. The mere fact that they were willing to get the design work done, to get the pocket folder printing, to even put that much thought into the material shows their dedication, and all of those pages have the companies name on it. That means I still have all of that contact info for whenever I might need their services.

I’m not saying the speech isn’t a very important part of any good presentation, but don’t disregard the material you bring with you. This is going to be what literally stays with a person once the presentation is over. Don’t you want it to be as good as it can?
