Bondronat: Proven Efficiency and Convenience

Third generation bisphosphonates include Bondronat. It decreases pain in people suffering Metastatic Bone Disease (MBD) in a fast and effective way. The European Commission for the prevention of skeletal events (bone complications that require surgery or radiotherapy and pathological fractures) recently approved the use of this drug in patients that experience bone metastases and breast cancer.

Bondronat is available intravenously and orally; a unique advantage of this drug among other bisphosphonates. The lifestyle of every patient varies, so does his/her treatment and Bondronat allows them to choose the formulation that suits their necessities better.

Some benefits of the use of the oral formulation are: convenience and the chance of being able to avoid needless and unbearable visits to hospitals. The drug can also be used by patients with serious renal injuries.

Jean-Jacques Body, a Professor from Institut Jules Bordet in Belgium is convinced of the fact that the appearance of Bondronat has a major significance in the treatment of Metastatic Bone Disease.

"In clinical trials, Bondronat has demonstrated significant improvements in quality of life for patients with MBD thanks to a marked reduction in pain associated with bone metastases. There are significantly fewer complications of MBD and the safety profile of oral and intravenous Bondronat appears to be remarkably good", said Body.

According to studies offered in the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) conference, Bondronat provides major clinical benefits to patients with bone metastases from colorectal cancer. It was the first time that a study showed that Bondronat was effective in colorectal cancer patients while offering them an advantageous option of treatment for incapacitating bone metastases.
