The Perfect Curtains
You have just moved into your new house and have finished decorating
your living room. You are proud of the laminate floor that has just
been laid, the freshly painted purple walls, the new black leather
three-piece suite and the carefully chosen rug to make the room feel
cosy and homely. However, you can’t decide what to hang at the
window. Despite the rest of the room being finished to perfection you
still have a bare window, as there are too many choices to make when it
comes curtains and blinds.
The first decision you need to make is whether to choose blinds or
curtains. After looking around at the selection of blinds, you decide
there is nothing you like, as everything you’ve found looks a little
too clinical. You want something softer to make your new home feel
snug so you decide to choose curtains. But now you have to decide if
you use off the shelf curtains or made to measure curtains.
You decide that as your window is a slightly unusual shape, you will be
better off investing in made to measure curtains as you aren’t planning
to decorate your room again for a while.
After getting the window measured you need to first decide which fabric
will suit your room the best. You consider thin, cotton curtains but
decide that it will let too much light through, which is not what you
want as you have a lamppost right outside your window. Next you
consider having thicker, more velvety curtains but you decide they will
look too bulky and heavy. You decide to compromise, you settle for
blackout curtains, that from the front look fairly light, but have a
thicker piece of material in the back to ensure the street light stays
out.
Finally, you need to decide on the colour and pattern of the curtain.
Your newly decorated living room has a fairly light and modern feel and
you want your curtains to be in keeping with this style. You consider
having plain curtains, but as the rest of your room is fairly plain you
are worried that everything may look a bit drab. Ideally you would
like an understated pattern to compliment the rest of the room. In
order to see what patterns are available you first need to decide which
colour you want. As your room is a dusty purple you decide that either
a colour to match the walls, or a grey will match perfectly.
Next you consider the patterns available. There are some more vibrant
patterns in purple, but you decide that you don’t want the window to be
the focal point of the room. You find a lovely purple fabric with
light and dark purple checkerboards on. However, you also find a
similar pattern in the grey. After holding a color swatch of paint up
to each pattern, you decide that the grey design will perfectly
compliment both your walls and you sofa.
The only thing left to consider is the curtain pole. You have a look
around and whilst you like the wooden designs you decide they don’t
have the contemporary feel you are looking for. You also look at
simple curtain tracks, but you want something that is a bit more of a
feature. So you turn to metal curtain poles. You look at both silver
and black poles and find a lovely silver one with a flame design at
either end. You know it perfectly compliments both your curtains and
the feel of the room. A week later your curtains have been fitted and
you can relax in your perfectly decorated, new living room.
