Food Safety Training

Food safety training is a necessary consideration for anybody working in the food industry.  This includes those working for companies for whom food-provision is an additional service – petrol stations and department stores, for example.  Without the correct training, your career will not only be held back, but could also be cut off completely if you are deemed to have not been making enough effort to ensure you are fully qualified for your role.

Although it is the responsibility of your employer to ensure all employees are offered training to the standard required by their position; you can also choose to train to a higher qualification either while working or before you seek a job in the first place.  This advanced food hygiene training will have a great impact on your CV, making you a much more desirable employee in these times where jobs are scarce.

However you choose to get yours, food training courses are rarely complicated or hard to find. Although EU Food Hygiene Legislation is strict on who needs food safety training, it is not as stringent on how you go about getting your training.  In fact, all the legislation states is that each employee must be able to prove that they have trained to the level required by their position; there is no regulation to say anybody must attend any formal training course whatsoever!  What this means is you can train online by using e-courses assessed by online multiple choice tests!  If you complete the assessment (which you should, since you can retake it as many times as you like), you will even be awarded with a certificate to prove you have trained to the required standard!  Online training courses require no travel, no accommodation and no tutors – meaning you can train at your own pace, in your own time and normally for a lot less money that you would have to pay for a formal training course.  This makes online food hygiene training exceptionally popular with employees and employers alike; as an easy, fast and cheap way to ensure everybody can prove they have the required training for their job.

There are a variety of options available for anybody seeking a food safety or food hygiene course, including food safety for catering, food safety for manufacturing, food safety for retail and those covering the general principles behind nutrition and healthy eating.  Although any of these courses will benefit anybody in a food business, it is highly recommended that you establish exactly which one you are required to take before signing up!  There are strict guidelines regarding what must be covered in your training course; if you take the wrong one, you may not be considered fully trained under EU Food Hygiene Legislation.  Anybody interested in doing their training online should also make sure that the course they sign up for is recognised by The Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) and The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), as well as ensuring that the certificates are valid with the CPD Certification Service.
