If you have never listened to the directors comments for your favorite movie on DVD...then drop what you are doing and head to the nearest DVD store ASAP...
I was introduced to the Mighty Wind, the Folk Music Documentary, starring Christopher Guest several years ago. This is the type of movie a fan can watch many times over. Each viewing reveals new wit and surprises. While the movie is excellent, the DVD with all of the extras is fantastic.
The DVD has a number of additional scenes, extra songs and the directors comments include Eugene Levy and Christopher Guest.
The Mighty Wind is a wonderful story about three popular Folk Music groups getting back together for a reunion concert honoring the memory of
one of the original concert promoters.
The cast includes Eugene Levy, Christopher Guest,Fred Willard, Ed Begley Jr., Parker Posey,Catherine O'Hare,Jane Lynch, John Michael Higgens and Stifler's Mom. ( Jennifer Coolidge, who had the best line in the movie)
Watching the DVD with the directors comments makes one realize just how talented all of the actors are. Most of the music was written by the actors themselves. The talented Michael McKean carried the load with most of the music.
The writers, Levy and Guest, wrote detailed studies of each character, created the flow and the story line and ....left the individual scenes up to the IMPROV talent of the actors.
During the movie, the actors had to learn to sing and play their musical instruments so they could perform in a live concert. Excellent music. The biggest surprise has to be Eugene Levy's singing voice. There is a scene on the DVD in the deleted scenes section where Levy is practicing and singing a song to O'Hare. They captured the essence of musicians that love their music above fame.
Obviously I recommend this movie... I think it's time to order the CD on line.
