The Power of Celebration

“If we took a holiday
Took some time to celebrate
Just one day out of life
It would be, it would be so nice!”
Chorus from Madonna’s Holiday Celebrate
We have been thrown into a bleak financial situation by the global economy --should we still celebrate? The answer is “Yes, you bet! Every chance you get!” Now, it is more important than ever before.

Everyday offers an opportunity to celebrate. You can touch a person’s heart by recognizing his/her birthday, an accomplishment or contribution and encouraging others to share in the celebration. When we decorate for a birthday party, the joyous atmosphere is contagious and people smile when they see the colorful balloons and party favors. Getting together with friends and family reinforces their bonds and encourages support of one another. All good results, with benefits for everyone!

Whether it is a family celebration or company event, most people want to be part of a happy occasion: the ground-breaking of a new building, surpassing a sales goal or welcoming a new baby to the household. These celebrations provide so much more than what you see on the surface.

Good things come from celebrations.

Something simple, like a “congratulations” banner across an office door encourage co-workers to inquire about the celebration and offer their good wishes to that person. All of which builds relationships in a positive manner.

When a large stork sign is placed on the front lawn, the neighborhood knows that a new baby is coming home to join the family.

Even a “gold star” on a first-grader’s math homework provides recognition and encourages positive interaction between the child, the teacher and the parents.

Any person or event that is important to you is reason enough to celebrate. I encourage you to search for something or someone to celebrate each day—and do it with flair!
