Network+ Certification: A Good Start to
Earning the Network+ certification not only proves you have the right CompTIA Network+ certification skills and knowledge, but also the commitment and dedication to your career in IT.
As I mentioned above, a useful thing to keep in mind about both the
CompTIA’s A+ and Network+ certification is that they can be used as an
elective for some vendor specific certifications. So if you’re
considering more specialized certifications, the A+ and Network+
certifications might be a good place to start.
Network+ certification and training is a testing program sponsored by
the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), that will
certify the knowledge of networking technicians with 18 - 24 months
experience in the IT industry. Earning the Network+ certification means
that the candidate possesses the knowledge needed to configure and
operate a variety of networking products. This exam covers a wide range
of vendor and product neutral networking technologies that can also
serve as a prerequisite for vendor-specific IT certifications.
An updated version of the CompTIA Network+ certification was launched in
early 2009 and you can obtain it by passing the N10-004 Network+ exam.
The CompTIA Network+ certification has been around for a decade and is
used to measure the knowledge and skills of entry level networking
technicians. The newest revision of the cert is the comptia certifications Network+ 2009, which was released earlier this year.
Covering topics like network hardware, installation, maintenance and
troubleshooting, the Network+ is a widely recognized certification
partly because it is vendor neutral and recognized around the world.
The Network+ validates the knowledge and skills of networking
professionals and demonstrates competency in managing, maintaining,
troubleshooting, installing and configuring basic network
infrastructures.
The Network+ cert is also considered a steppingstone to more advanced,
vendor specific certifications including Microsoft, Novell, Cisco and HP
who recognize Network+ exam as part of their certification tracks.
Although the Network+ is an entry level cert, CompTIA recommends that
candidates complete the A+ certification and have at least 9 months of
experience performing networking tasks before taking the exam.
However, these are not requirements and in order to obtain the Network+ 2009 certification you only need to pass a single exam.
The Network+ exam is 90 minutes long, has a total of 100 questions and you need a passing score of 720 on a scale of 100-900.
To learn about what’s covered in the new Network+ 2009 exam you can download the new exam objectives.
As with any CompTIA exams A+ training course,
the Network+ is available through Prometric and Pearson Vue testing
centers, although currently the exams are only available in English,
Spanish and German.
