Management Today: lorry driving could be one of the best careers
According to Management Today, the hub for Britain’s bosses and managers which gives “a practical guide to business success”, the logistics industry, and in particular lorry driving, could be the best career in the UK today, reports lorry driver training provider HGV Express (http://www.hgvexpress.co.uk/). This is based on a recent survey from careers advice website thejobcrowd.com which found that people working in the transport and logistics sector were the “happiest” in the UK.
Business portal Management Today revealed the findings of the survey carried out by thejobcrowd.com, which asked workers from sectors all over the UK to rate their career happiness according to a number of criteria, including responsibility, potential for progression, their relationships with colleagues, training, and the general quality of the company they worked for. Nearly 550 young professionals were surveyed and the transport and logistics sector came top for happiness. As Management Today put it, “Looking for a fun, exciting job with great colleagues? Have you considered becoming a lorry driver?”. Administration, call centre customer service and information technology came in at the bottom of the career happiness scale.
HGV training firm HGV Express agrees with these findings, having met countless individuals looking to retrain as a lorry driver. In particular, the quality of truck driver training does seem to be a factor as not only does it encourage more young people with no previous experience to the industry, but also provides ongoing training throughout a lifetime as a lorry driver to aid career progression. Over and above the criteria laid out in the survey, lorry drivers also cite the flexibility of working hours, the good pay, not having to be tied to an office and the reliability of ongoing work as attractions of the trade.
This is the most recent positive news for the HGV sector, following the UK Minister of Employment telling the Mirror newspaper that now is a “good time to get in the driving seat of your career with thousands of [driving] jobs currently available”.
