An Excellent Break-in
Brand new cars need break-in to perform best in the long run. Break-in is necessary for any mechanical equipment or device, such as an automobile. The engine needs to be powered and ran gradually until it reaches its optimum performance. If taken lightly, a break-in might fail instead of influencing the longevity of the vehicle. If you bought a brand new car, begin by planning an ideal break-in.
Break-in period usually covers the first 1000 miles of the car’s journey. Drive gently in as slow as 65 mph in the first few hundred meters. That will allow the piston rings in the engine to perform best in scraping oil into the engine cylinders. All other components in the engine depend on this oil for lubrication and performance. Speed and longevity is measured by how well the piston rings perform.
Check for the type of engine your car has. A high performance engine requires a different approach in maintaining speed during the break-in period. A wider range of speed is needed to achieve the optimum performance of the car. Well-known brands sold by dealers mostly have high performance engines. If you have one, do not leave it idle and not running for longer than a few minutes.
Short trips are anathema to well-known brands. Remember that the engine of the car needs to be running most of the time, which is possible in long journeys. Therefore, plan for out of town travel to have the car properly broken in. The amount of metal particles after this span is significant that immediate change oil is required.
