The ABC of Web Conferencing as a Learning Tool

The internet revolution has touched almost all aspects of our lives. Everyday, new applications geared to making life easier are being manufactured. This movement has been fanned by the developments in the computer world where devices that can be applied to work with the innovative software have become readily available. Sharing of information is one of the areas which have developed tremendously on the crest of the computer growth wave. The most notable means of sharing information is web conferencing and the recent years have seen its application in many areas more so in educational training and correspondence. So, what makes web conferencing cause such a buzz in the technology circles? The fact that most of the previous means of sharing knowledge were rigid, tedious and expensive forced technological experts to work extra-hard to actualize web conferencing. So, what does web conferencing involve? Basically, today’s corporations are out to save every penny due to the high cost of business especially after 9/11. The essence of video conferencing revolves around having various individuals or offices linking over the internet to do their business thus minimizing travel. The conferencing involves interactive sessions where whiteboards are used to share ideas or posture different proposals throughout the world amongst those who are required for the session. Though it might seem like a virtual business application, web conferencing has taken root in educational circles through the learning management systems. A few years back, the idea of an E-learning management system (elms) was still subordinate to the more debated E-commerce but today, it has caught up. Many institutions have integrated the learning management systems as part of their normal operations. The question that arises is why anyone would adopt learning management systems that incorporate web conferencing. The creation of a global village through the internet is now a reality and there is no need for one to move thousands of miles just for a simple training while this could be done simply through the conferencing. The need for knowledge and specialized skills is alive today more than ever and hence, even corporations need these skills cheaply and efficiently. This is where web conferencing comes in by creating an interactive atmosphere where information is disseminated in an interactive environment. The professors, virtual classrooms, chats, whiteboards that form the main features of learning management systems make the whole scenario as close as possible to a real training facility. How does one choose the best E-learning suite or web referencing provider? With the internet awash with so many providers with elms solutions, it becomes imperative for the prospective customer to choose carefully before selecting. There is need for reliability on the learning management systems provider that you select because such new technology might be difficult to apply at the beginning. Furthermore, you would like a service provider who has good customer support in case there are issues arising from the elms. This improves the knowledge imparting process and makes it more effective when downtimes are reduced. Another issue that can help you is the issue of the total cost of ownership of the learning management systems. The duration for the set up should also be a factor in determining who to work with.
