1. One storey floor plan: This kind of building design and construction may require more money as more land is required for accommodating the functions. The benefit is that all the living areas are in one level and there are no stairs required in the house design. This is ideal for those who find it difficult to climb stairs.
2. Two storey floor plans: This kind of house design requires less land than the one storey floor plan to accommodate the same number of functions. It also offers more privacy
3. Three storey floor plans: It is similar to a two storey floor plan with the basic difference being availability of an additional floor space.
4. Multi level floor plans: In such house designs a staircase is used to connect all the levels
There are some common characteristics of a good floor plan. The plan should be legible i.e. one should be able to understand and navigate the space easily with out getting confused on the floor. The plan should provide ample scope for natural ventilation and natural day light to filter in the living spaces to reduce energy load on the building.
