Wisdom From Sun Tzu (Be Like water)
Sun Tzu was a famous ancient Chinese general who wrote about warfare. His methods are still being read and used today, in fact Bruce Lee applied his concepts to life and Lee's martial art style, Jeet Kune Do (the way of the intercepting fist). Here now are some words that can be used in life as well as in battle.
"Manage your military formations like water. Water takes every shape. It avoids the high and moves to the low. War can take any shape. It must avoid the strong and strike the weak. Water takes the shape of the land that directs it's flow. Should your forces follow the enemy, who determines how you win? Make war without a standard approach. Water has no constant shape. If you follow the enemy's shifts and changes, you can always find a way to win. This is known as shadowing."
The explanation. Water is Sun Tzu's analogy for change or direction. The flow of water represents opportunity to him. You must react quickly and correctly to any opportunity given to you before the window closes. Always change your approach to focus on your strengths and your enemy's weaknesses. The position or form of your foe takes is the basis for his weakness. Consider the acronym F.L.A.G.S. (Fear, Lust, Anger, Greed, Sympathy) Your enemy could be prone to any one of these concepts or emotions. You must always strive to be in control of your emotions and be disciplined in your actions. You must react to the choice that your opponents decide. They create the opening by their actions. For instance in fighting if you enemy is a striker then use your kicks to keep him at bay or tie him up if he comes in, perhaps even go to the ground and pound by using grappling. In life, if a person seeks to spread lies about then tell the truth and spot them out; influencing others to your side by positive means, stopping rumors or gossip in it's tracks. Try various methods to approach a situation instead of one size fits all. When a person continually flirts to get their way, then others will see him or her as they really are. However, if they chose flattery or niceness instead, this will confuse or throw off those who hear them. Now I do not recommend flirtation, flattery in this matter, but genuine kindness often goes along way with many. Ultimately, your success or failure is based on how you use your time now.
Bruce Lee said many times for a person to be like water. He knew and properly applied all of the principles written by Sun Tzu, and everyone saw the difference between his form of martial arts and others. He taught that we must be ready to accept and be prepared to encounter any situation that we face. This can only happen through rigorous training, constant study and a deep spiritual understanding.
My personal view on the matter is that God knew that men would use many principles based on water. It cover the vast majority of the world, and gives all things life. It's no mistake then that He uses it to enter into a covenant agreement with Him. When a person is baptized in the name of Jesus, he rises up in the newness of life unto a new man. Water has many forms (liquid, solid and vapor) and bring about cleansing and healing in some. Noah who made a Ark (a type of church) by faith, was saved by means of water - and condemned the world. Some say that's a doctrine of works, but Jesus and James both said that faith without works is dead. Nobody can work themselves into the grace of God, but that unmerited favor is reflected or moved upon by faith in the hearer of the word. Beside what work is to lie on your back and allow someone to cover you with water? None. Are you going to doubt Jesus or His divinely appointed Apostles for what your church teaches? I should hope not. The proof is always in the pudding, that's where the rubber meets the road. Try what I said by faith first, this principle is taken directly from the words of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior who died for the sins of mankind. Actions always tell more about men than mere words, that's according to Sun Tzu. The Apostle John said that if you see someone in need and say God bless you instead of helping them out with your goods, then how can God's love dwell within you? Do you love your church, job or family above God? This cannot be so if you really are His. That's idolatry. God tells us to serve Him first with our best, love our family secondly, and to lastly work. Too many people are mixed up in their priorities. Always go to a Christian Church that preaches the truth about His word. If you indeed serve Him and are alone, He will bring you another if you remain true to his word - which is like water. It fills the gap in our lives. It flows from us rapidly. It's life giving and causes greater living. It covers the world, even as the waters presently do so (as this will not be so in the 1,000 year reign of Christ). Whenever a person flows like water during battle, whether in martial or spiritual ones, they become in tune with the one Holy Spirit of the universe. He alone can grant victory no matter what the odds are against it. May God bless and enrich your life by this report.
